142bpm

I had my 16 week checkup today where we heard eebe’s heartbeat (142bpm—I’m going to buy a fetoscope so I can hear it whenever I want to), did my last round of genetic screening, tried to get an h1n1 vaccine (no go—it’s being reserved for women in their 3rd trimester), got a urine test, my blood pressure taken, and got weighed (+7lbs). Everything is great. I’m healthy, eebe is healthy.

The OB practice I go to rotates doctors each visit so you never know who you are going to have. This is complicated by the fact that 3 of the doctors in the practice are pregnant themselves. They rotate since you never know who you are going to have at the hospital so they want you to get to know everyone. Today I met with my favorite doctor so far. She shares my enthusiasm for how amazing this whole experience this is and took a lot of time to answer my questions.

Everytime I’m at the doctors office I’m in such awe that my body can produce another human being. I used to grumble about the fact that only women can be pregnant but now I view it as a privilege. In fact, I think if Lucas even had a choice in the matter I’d probably arm wrestle him for the chance anyhow. I always thought being pregnant was difficult but I’ve been really lucky. I only threw up 3 times, and the only nagging symptoms I have are heartburn and this weird taste in my mouth after eating startchy or sweet things.

Now just 4 more weeks until we know the gender!
