new blog
ethan,
technology changes so quickly these days. hopefully, when you are older web services will be refined to the point that there is only one, simple option. in the meantime we’ve moved your blog to:
ethandaniel.me
I saw you!
Last night I had a dream where we were at a vacation home with the entire fam. JD asked to feel Ethan and as I looked down at my belly, I saw Ethan’s foot poke out. I remember being able to see his little toenails and everyone was amazed his foot was sticking so far out. All of a sudden his head poked out too. And I looked down into his little blue eyes (clearly, I have no idea how this...
big plans
so many things to do & finalize before ethan arrives including…
hang pictures in nursery
cook meals & freeze them for first few weeks
make cheat sheets covering main topics like breastfeeding, peeing/pooping, bathing, etc.
make kits of products that are ready to go/can move to different rooms (like bath kit, breastfeeding kit, changing kit)
wash everything in dreft. replace.

Almost all baby classes complete!
We just have one more—CPR. This weekend we took baby basics and the full day of what happens at the hospital. The hospital is nice and feels somewhat hotel-like but it’s still a hospital and the whole experience scared me quite a bit. In the other class we learned how to diaper, bathe, and what to look for if Ethan gets sick. I feel more prepared.
Oof!
Ethan: you are getting so strong in there! Your punches/kicks (not sure how you are positioned) are getting stronger every day. My whole belly jerks back and forth—especially at night.
hiccups
Lucas, Ethan and I all had hiccups within a 3 day period. Weird! Ethan has had hiccups 3 times in the last week.
34 week appt.
I had my 34 week appointment this morning. It’s like deja vu except I’m a few pounds heavier. Try to pee in a cup, take off boots to get weighed, slightly elevated blood pressure, shake hands with doctor, hear Ethan’s heart beat, wipe goo off belly, put boots back on. This time it took her awhile to find his heartbeat which really freaked me out.
I saw a new doctor in my...

Latest update
On one hand it feels like not much is going on—that we’re just passing the time (redecorating our bedroom, watching lost, hosting dinner parties, playing settlers of catan) and on the other lots of new stuff is happening.
I’m at 33.5 weeks right now. My 32 week appointment went great—Ethan and I are healthy. My blood pressure was slightly elevated (but of course they took...
top strangest moments from pregnancy so far:
-finding out I was pregnant at work, telling Lucas via g-chat, running out and buying 2 more tests (from different brands just to make sure), trying to schedule a blood test and not being able to beacuse doctors don’t want to see you until you are like 10 weeks and then realizing that the tests are like 99.9% accurate.
-immediately throwing up after eating a donut when I hadn’t had...
crazy dreams
Was it the cold or the pregnancy hormones…I’ve had some crazy, vivid dreams lately:
-waking up in the middle of the night trying to make snowball from our comforter (which i thought was a patch of snow)
-traveling to japan to go to a private room pizza parlor simulator (you never get any pizza but can smell it, order it, pretend to eat it)
-riding a crazy willy wonka like elevator...
so sick
i’ve come down with an awful cold. sore throat, headache, congestion. feels like the flu minus the fever. anyhow, ethan keeps kicking along happily in my belly so apparently he’s still feeling fine.

Racing heartbeat
The last two days my heartbeat has been racing at about 110bpm for about 45 minutes with no way to slow it down. This morning I laid down on the cold bathroom floor in my office to try to calm down and nothing worked. My doctor said it’s normal to have elevated blood pressure/heart rate due to the fact that I have triple the blood supply but it’s still pretty scary. As long as I...
28 week checkup
Lucas and I went in for my 28 week checkup Monday morning. Unfortunately we were stuck with the doctor we dislike the most (in this practice they rotate you amongst 7 doctors since you never know who will be on duty when you deliver). We don’t like her because she’s a terrible listener—cuts you off in the middle of speaking and feels very rushed. Even worse, she’s recently...
Nothing to complain about.
I’ve been a big complainer the last month-things hurt, I can’t sleep, people don’t give me a seat on public transportation, yadda yadda yadda.
Last night through the connections on the internets, I ran into the blog of my college boyfriend’s fiance, HM. HM is 33—same age as me. Her blog begins when she starts chemo for stage III breast cancer last May. She goes...
3rd Trimester
This is it! The final stretch. The last 3 months of freedom, total body discomfort, and anxiety. I’m looking forward to going to the doctor at the end of this month because I feel like my body has changed so much. My belly seems huge, my energy level is down, my legs and hips have started to cramp up more, and I’m having a hard time getting a deep breath on occasion.
This weekend I...
Things are getting uncomfortable
I’m big. It’s cold, icy, and snowy outside. My clothes don’t fit. I have heartburn all day long. My skin is breaking out. I get out of breath pretty easily. I can’t sleep. Sometimes it’s hard to get a deep breath. I’m tired. I’m scared about giving birth. I’m scared about becoming a parent. I’m exhausted every day from working. I’m...

Bonus ultrasound today
Since Ethan wouldn’t turn around at the last Ultrasound, today I get to go back in and see him!
Kicky kicky
It’s a little difficult to tell if Ethan is kicking or something else is going on in there—there seems to be a lot of strange feelings. Lately, a new one that feels a bit like a bubble bursting in the front of my stomach has been appearing at the end of the day. Could it be?
Many women describe quickening like butterflies in their stomach…but it doesn’t feel like a flutter...

Thanksgiving
Yesterday (Thanksgiving) was my 20 week milestone. So now the countdown begins-20 weeks to go.
A sweet memory from yesterday
The ultrasound took about an hour yesterday. The technician had to measure and take photos of all of Ethan’s organs, bones and limbs. She was nice and told us right away it was a boy, but even before she told us we both saw the evidence. After about 45 minutes there were only two photos of the heart left to take but Ethan wouldn’t turn around to get the image. The tech had me drink a...
It's a boy!
Nice to meet you Ethan Paul Daniel.
It's almost Tuesday...
I’m so excited to find out…I know I’m going to burst into tears no matter what they say. I’m also excited to see how much eebe has grown. My belly certainly has. I saw myself in a mirror in a store this weekend and thought I was wearing a shirt that hid the fact that I’m pregnant but I looked SO pregnant (so much for that shirt hiding anything). I’m also...
Countdown!
Only 8 days until we find out if we are having an Ethan or a Phoebe. I can’t wait!!!

142bpm
I had my 16 week checkup today where we heard eebe’s heartbeat (142bpm—I’m going to buy a fetoscope so I can hear it whenever I want to), did my last round of genetic screening, tried to get an h1n1 vaccine (no go—it’s being reserved for women in their 3rd trimester), got a urine test, my blood pressure taken, and got weighed (+7lbs). Everything is great. I’m...
Next appointment this Friday
My 16 week OB appointment is this Friday. Lucas will miss it since he’s in Korea. I won’t be having an ultrasound anyhow—just listening to eebe’s heartbeat. It comes at a good time because I have so few symptoms I barely feel pregnant. I don’t really look pregnant quite yet either. I need some feedback to know everything is ok. After this appointment it’s just 4 more weeks until we find out if...
ok. last one. i can’t resist! eebe is going to love Olive.
Our 1st baby
What's the worst thing about being pregnant?
The unsolicited advice!
feeling better!
dad is feeling better…but is still contagious. so the masks stay on…
in sickness and in health (but while wearing a...
Daddy has come down with the flu. Yesterday he went to the ER with a fever of 102.5. They gave him some meds but not for the flu so today I drove him to the doctor and he felt that it was pretty severe and gave him some different medication. In the meantime, he’s quarantined to our master bedroom and I get to sleep on the couch and/or guest room (thank goodness we have a big enough home to...
Lil geek
Looking forward to having a future lil geek.
Lemon
April is in her 14th week of pregnancy, which means eebe is the size of a lemon. We both think it’s pretty comical to choose common fruits to represent the fetus, but I guess it’s a pretty universal way to understand size. And it’s just size, not really shape. The only odd ones in the list are week 10: Prune (makes me picture a dry, shriveled, not very tasty baby) and week 21:...
Body changes
I’m officially showing. My stomach is out and proud. I’m still dressing to hide it though. Although that is getting increasingly difficult. I started another blog here to document the things I’m learning about how to dress my changing body.
Today marks the first day of my second trimester. I’m feeling less nauseous and my appetite is slowly coming back. My need to urgently...
